STEM Lesson: The Three Little Pigs

Today, children in Senior Infants participated in lessons using a thematic approach. Integration of subjects included English, Science, Maths, Geography, Visual Art, Drama and Aistear. Children were highly engaged and enjoyed the lesson.

Children investigated what material of house (from the story ‘The Three Little Pigs) was the strongest. Children made houses using cocktail sticks and jelly (stick house), straws and elastic bands (straw house), and Lego (bricks). Children worked in pairs making the houses. Using a hairdryer (wolf), children explored if the houses were strong enough to remain standing.

Our Well-Being Schools of the Future

The theme for this year’s Science Week is ‘Changing for the Future’. Fifth Class looked at this theme in relation to school. Children looked at three videos, learning outdoors, having a robot assistant and having no rules in the playground as a trigger for their own Well-being schools.

Children came up with ideas for their well-being schools. In groups, children shared, discussed and agreed on ideas for their Well-being Schools.

Using Lego and building blocks, children designed the Well-being Schools.

Science Week in Junior Infants

Junior Infants had great fun this week doing some experiments and learning about different things in Science. They made Oobleck and had fun playing with this. They made rainbows with Skittles and water and watched the different patterns forming. They also made lava lamps and watched the bubbles move up and down. Children learned about the giraffes in Fota Wildlife and also learned about the solar system.
