Science Week 2019

Well done to the school’s representative team who will participate in the County Finals Intel Mini Scientist Competition that will take place in December. Students are Jaime Collins, James Hartnett, Luke Rainsford and Cillian Holmes. During assembly, children spoke about the board game they are designing to combat obesity and to promote activity among young people. Our school received a plaque for participating in the competition and this will be put up in the school.

Time For Chess

This year, children from Third Class to Sixth Class will learn to play chess. Today, a small group of children played some friendly games against each other. The children had great fun and enjoyed the games.

The Junior Entrepreneur Programme Has Begun

Today, 5th Class started their journey of the innovative programmee ‘Junior Entrepreneur’. This is the first class in the school to participate in this programme. Today, children brainstormed the word ‘entrepreneur’ and then looked up its meaning in the dictionary. Children also looked up words such as ‘initiative’, ‘enterprise’, ‘tycoon’ and ‘undertaking’. Children drew a picture of what their interpretation of an ‘entrepreneur’ is. They also named local and national entrepreneurs. We had a fantastic start to the programme. Could we have the next successful entrepreneur in the class?

The Scientific Dilemmas of Dippy the Dinosaur

To celebrate Science Week, second class attended a STEM show titled ‘The Scientific Dilemma’s of Dippy the Dinosaur’ in the Lime Tree Theatre in Mary Immaculate College. Children learned about Paleontologists and the intrepid explorers of unchartered territories. They discovered fossils of prehistoric proportions and then used them to unravel the puzzles surrounding the lives of dinosaurs. They explored some mind-boggling dilemmas of the magnificent sauropod: DIPLODOCUS. It was a fantastic event and the children really enjoyed the day!

Children in fourth class had a school exhibition and presented their projects to the children in Junior Infants, Senior Infants, First Class, Second Class and Third Class. Children had an opportunity to interact with the different groups, asking questions, playing games and exploring different topics. All of the classes had great fun. The boys and girls in Fourth Class did a great job! Well done to all of the boys and girls!
