Cross Country Athletics 2018

We had great success at the Limerick Cross Country Running in the Limerick Racecourse in Patrickswell yesterday.  Over a thousand children participated on the day from schools around Limerick.

Scoil Mhuire Murroe was well represented in all races, competing in the age groups from 8 up to 12.  We came home with 8 individual medals.  The individual medal winners were: Aideen Kinsella, Millie Martin, Cian Long, Cillian Holmes, Lauren Cusack, Kerrie Moroney, Alex Woodland and Peter Ashe.

Team medal winners were the U8 Girls who won Gold medals.  The team members were: Aideen Kinsella, Millie Martin, Ava Short, Pearl Crowe, Áine Mc Elligott and Maeve Gleeson.

In the U8 Boys event we won Bronze medals.  The team members were: Cian Long, Darragh Meehan, Liam O’Brien, Killian Hartnett, Alex Drew and Páraic Landers.

In the U10 Boys category we won Silver medals.  The team members were: Alex Woodland, Peter Ashe, Ben Ross, Ewan O’Flynn, Reuben Crowe and Cillian Kinsella.

The Parents’ Association had provided us with our yellow singlets last year and our athletes stood out not only for their running but also for their striking singlets in the lovely Autumn sunshine yesterday.  Congratulations to all our athletes on their wonderful achievements at the Limerick Cross Country Running.

Running to Europe, 2nd Class

Second Class took part in the Run to Europe. For one week, we took to the running track and ran laps for 15 minutes each day. Each lap counted as one kilometre. We ran as far as Paris, France.

We had a look at the sights of Paris on the IWB; the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, the sightseeing boats on the River Seine, the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs Elysées, views of Paris on Bastille Day and of course a little look at EuroDisney.

We also practised some French vocabulary, Bonjour, Au Revoir, Merci, Oui Oui, etc.

Then we sang Frere Jacques, and for good measure we sang the song in English (Are you Sleeping) and in Irish (Aindí  Leisciúil). We even sang it in two parts.

We had great fun on our trip to Paris!
